The new year is upon us and many individuals will set New Year’s resolutions.  Although we are optimistic that the goals we set are attainable, we must be realistic and allow ourselves some flexibility.  As we move into the next few months, please encourage your children to set mini-goals, strive for achievement and recognize their accomplishments.  Here are a few suggestions to help initiate the conversation at home:

  • Get to school on time by setting the alarm 10 minutes earlier.
  • Establish a morning routine.
  • Prepare backpacks the night before.
  • Eat breakfast daily.
  • Follow the three school rules: Be Safe, Show Respect, Do Your Best!
  • Engage in extra-curricular activities.
  • Communicate with your child’s teacher.
  • Be cognizant of time.  Although we encourage students to explore outside interests, we need to be sure they are not over doing it.

If your child can commit to one “resolution”, the benefit will positively impact his/her entire day.  Please discuss these possibilities with your child and have him/her take the initiative to become actively involved in creating their own learning experience.

Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year!
