Sources of Strength

Sources of Strength has been listed on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP) as an effective program that harnesses the power of peer social networks.  The goal is to change unhealthy norms stemming from, but not exclusive to, anxiety, depression and stress. The club wants to build protective influences around each other to reduce the likelihood that vulnerable youth could become suicidal.  The group spreads hope by focusing on stories of strength, rather than on stories of trauma.  The group tends to meet once a month, before or after school.  As a club, their most powerful impact comes from personal actions, conversations, and messages that use their voices, their art, their writing, their music, their activities, their culture.  As stated in the Sources of Strength Mission: “This gives life to our efforts.”  Interested students can visit Room #148 or #241B.
