Niagara Frontier League Press Release: The Niagara Frontier League Athletic Directors met today, September 17, 2020 in response to the recent Section VI Athletic Council’s decision to move forward with Fall Sports. In addressing concerns from our league member schools, the decision was made by the league Athletic Directors to postpone the sport of Girls Swimming and Diving until March 1, 2021. The new date will coincide with other fall sports that were moved by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The new “Fall Season II” which also now includes Football, Competitive Cheerleading and Volleyball. Determining factors that were used in making this decision include:
Concerns regarding the safe use of swim facilities and locker rooms
Section VI cancellation of Class and Sectional Meets
Lack of conflict with other sports
Prohibited attendance for spectators at swim meets
The other low and moderate risk sports are still authorized to begin practices on Monday, September 21, 2020. These include the sports of Cross-Country, Girls Tennis, Golf, and Boys and Girls Soccer.
This resource was prepared by NYSPHSAA staff, Section Executive Directors, Sport Coordinators and the NYSPHSAA COVID-19 Task Force to assist member schools when providing interscholastic athletic opportunities for students.
