School Reopening Update

  • A Message from Superintendent Bradley
    Friday, August 14, 2020
On Friday, August 7, 2020, Governor Cuomo announced that schools in New York State may reopen next month.  The Governor asked school districts to post three plans on their district website, separate from their overall plan, in order to facilitate easier access for parents.  The plans address COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, and remote instruction. The Governor also asked schools to hold three to five meetings for parents to learn and to ask questions about reopening plans and one meeting for teachers.  Below you will find the three LCSD plans and the dates for the parent meetings for Lockport.

Parent Question and Answer Opportunity Sessions for School Reopening Plan

Three opportunities are being provided for parents in the Lockport City School District to ask questions regarding the School Reopening Plan:

    1. Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 4:30PM. This opportunity will be part of the Board of Education meeting.
    2. Monday, August 17, 2020, at 11AM.
    3. Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Two in person sessions 7pm to 8pm and 8:30pm to 9:30pm at the Lockport High School Auditorium. You must sign up ahead of time by contacting Board President Karen Young at Karen.Young@lockportschools.net

More important information about participating in the in-person parent meetings can be found at www.lockportschools.org/live

The date for registering for remote learning has been extended to Thursday, August 20, 2020.  A commitment to the full remote learning model must be made for the first ten weeks of school, September 8, 2020 though November 13,2020.  Parents who are interested in registering for the full remote learning option must contact their child's principal by August 20.

Lockport City School District School Reopening Plan: In Lockport, the hybrid model will be implemented for all students prekindergarten through grade 12 beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020. In other words, students will be assigned by the primary family last name to either a BLUE day or a GOLD day and report to school for in-person instruction every other day. When students are not in school on the assigned day, they will participate in remote learning from home following a schedule from their teacher. Faculty and staff will be returning to school on September 1 and reporting daily. Due to social distancing requirements, a full in-person model of instruction is impossible at this time.

The reopening of school is a coordinated process and incorporates recommendations and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and the New York State Education Department (NYSED). It is possible that we may need to alternate between in-person and remote learning throughout the year due to recommendations and guidance from our partnering agencies, and stay-at-home orders from the Governor.
