Dear Aaron Mossell Junior High School Parents and Legal Guardians,
Earlier today, school officials were made aware of a situation involving a Lockport High School West student who made what could be interpreted as a verbal threat directed toward an Aaron Mossell Junior High School student. This information was taken very seriously and was immediately reported to administration.
In keeping with district safety protocols, school leaders at both buildings worked in close collaboration with the Lockport City Police Department to initiate a thorough investigation. After reviewing the details of the incident, it was determined that the threat was non-credible and that there is no immediate danger to students or staff at either school.
We understand that hearing about any potential threat—regardless of credibility—can be upsetting for students, families, and staff. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. The district responds swiftly and seriously to all reported threats. Each incident is fully investigated, and the District Code of Conduct is used to guide any appropriate disciplinary action.
We also ask parents and guardians to have ongoing conversations with their children about the importance of using responsible and appropriate language in and out of school. Even statements made jokingly can be misunderstood and carry serious consequences.
Out of an abundance of caution and as part of our standard safety response, there will be an increased police presence in the area tomorrow to provide additional reassurance and support to our school community.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us maintain a safe and respectful learning environment at Aaron Mossell Junior High School.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mathis Calvin III
Superintendent of Schools
