Dear Emmet Belknap Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well. I want to inform you that the district was made aware of concerning, verbal remarks made by an Emmet Belknap Intermediate student that could be interpreted as a potential threat. In response, we immediately launched an investigation in collaboration with local law enforcement.
After a thorough review, the police determined that there is no credible threat to the school or its community.
The district takes all safety-related concerns very seriously. We are committed to conducting thorough investigations and upholding our code of conduct to ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff.
We encourage parents and guardians to speak with their child(ren) about the importance of refraining from making comments or gestures that could be perceived as threatening. Even remarks made in jest can cause unnecessary alarm and must be avoided.
We appreciate the quick response and continued support of the Lockport City Police Department. As an added precaution, additional security will be available during arrival at Emmet Belknap tomorrow, following our standard protocol whenever any type of potential threat is reported, regardless of its credibility.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Principal Jennifer T. Gilson at 716-478-4550.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Yours in Education,
Mathis Calvin III, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
