Dear Lockport High School Parents and Legal Guardians,
I am writing to inform you that earlier today, school administrators were made aware of a concern regarding comments allegedly made last week by a student about potentially bringing a weapon to school. While the incident occurred approximately one week ago, it was only reported to us today.
Upon notification, school administrators, in collaboration with the Lockport Police Department, immediately began investigating the matter. Both investigations have determined that there was no credible threat to the school and that the student did not bring a weapon to school at any time.
The Lockport City School District takes all threats seriously and follows our District Code of Conduct in guiding investigations. We ask that parents and guardians speak with their children about the importance of not making comments about weapons or safety threats, whether jokingly or otherwise.
As part of our standard safety protocol, there will be an increased security presence at Lockport High School as students return. We sincerely appreciate the Lockport Police Department for their assistance and partnership in keeping our school community safe.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for supporting our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe learning environment.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mathis Calvin III
Superintendent of Schools
Lockport City School District
