Ortt with Nyema and Kelsie

Two Lockport High School students were recognized at the state level for their leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to their school community.

LHS juniors Kelsie Kirkpatrick and Nyema Campbell were presented with the New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Award by Senator Rob Ortt last week. The prestigious recognition highlights students across New York who demonstrate excellence both in and out of the classroom.

Kirkpatrick is actively involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including athletics, the music program, drama club (stage crew), DECA, TALAT (Take A Look At Teaching), Key Club, Page Turners, and Bible Club. She also holds several leadership positions, serving as Treasurer of the Student Council, Co-Secretary of the Class Council, and Captain of the junior varsity volleyball team. Her nominator noted her consistent dedication to academics, school involvement, and volunteer service, which has earned her numerous honors.

Campbell has distinguished herself as a student leader and communicator. She serves as chief editor of both the school’s literary magazine and newspaper and was selected as the district’s first-ever student member of the Board of Education. In this role, she attends monthly meetings, elevates student concerns, and provides valuable perspective on district initiatives. Campbell was also selected to participate in this year’s Empire Girls State, a weeklong leadership and government program organized by the American Legion Auxiliary.

The Lockport City School District congratulates Kelsie Kirkpatrick and Nyema Campbell on this well-deserved recognition and applauds their continued leadership and impact within the school community.
