Dear Lockport City School District Learning Community,

I am writing to share several administrative staffing updates that will take effect during the 2026–2027 school year.

As part of our continued efforts to strengthen instructional leadership and support across the district, the Board of Education recently approved two additional assistant principal positions for next school year. In combination with staff transfer requests and organizational planning efforts, these changes will allow us to better support students, staff, and school communities throughout the district.

The following administrative assignments will take effect for the 2026–2027 school year:

  • Andrew Harrington – Mr. Harrington currently serves as a shared assistant principal at Roy B. Kelley Elementary School and Anna Merritt Elementary School. Beginning next school year, he will transition to Charles Upson Elementary School, where he will serve as the full-time assistant principal.

  • Shawn Murray – Mr. Murray currently serves as a shared assistant principal between Charles Upson Elementary School and George Southard Elementary School. Beginning next school year, he will serve exclusively at George Southard Elementary School as its full-time assistant principal.

  • Elizabeth Smorol – Mrs. Smorol currently serves as assistant principal at Emmet Belknap Intermediate School. Beginning next school year, she will transition to Anna Merritt Elementary School as its full-time assistant principal. The district is currently working through the hiring process to fill the assistant principal vacancy at Emmet Belknap.

  • Amanda Schaus – Mrs. Schaus currently serves as an assistant principal at Lockport High School. Beginning next school year, she will transition to Roy B. Kelley Elementary School where she will serve as the full-time assistant principal.

  • Heather McClain – Ms. McClain currently serves as the district’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Beginning next school year, she will transition to Lockport High School to serve as an assistant principal. Ms. McClain previously served in this role at Lockport High School prior to her current district-level position.

Over the coming weeks and months, these administrators will begin visiting their new school communities and working closely with principals, staff, students, and families to support a smooth and positive transition process.

Please know that these decisions were made thoughtfully and with the continued goal of strengthening our schools and supporting student success across the district. We are confident that these leadership changes will continue to build upon the strong work already taking place throughout Lockport City School District.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our schools.

Yours in Education,
Mathis Calvin III, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
