Meet the Candidates
Mrs. Giansante's LHS Spanish 3, 4, and 5 students celebrated El Día de los Niños and El Día de los Libros yesterday in classes. Students had the opportunity to hear from guest readers who featured a favorite book from their childhood. Following this, there was an opportunity for all students to select a free book from a large collection and enjoy free reading time. Started in Mexico, El Día de los Niños (Children's Day) and El Día de los Libros (Book Day) are celebrated on April 30th. This day is a time to celebrate children and their families, emphasizing the importance of reading and literacy, particularly for children from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

LHS students Jadyn Beshaw, Jocelyn Velazquez, and Emily Wise were awarded the chance to participate in the DECA International Career Development Conference this past week in Orlando, Florida with over 26,000 students. They gained networking connections with industry professionals and students from around the globe. This opportunity was made possible by the initiative and hard work by these three young future professionals, but also could not have happened without the sponsorship of local business partners; Shamus, World Used Tires Inc., Reid Petroleum Corporation, Heinrich Chevrolet, NetPlus Alliance, Bling!, Lockport Schools & Community FCU, HTI Recycling LLC, Connor Wealth Management, Village Eatery, and Niagara's Choice Credit Union. Thank you!

STEM UNITY
🦁💙 Embrace our differences and support each other. Every student brings something unique to our classrooms—different strengths, perspectives, and ways of learning. That’s what makes our schools strong. When we take the time to understand and uplift one another, we create a community where everyone belongs and everyone can succeed. #WeAreLions #NeurodiversityAwareness

Small actions can make a big difference. Whether it’s offering a quiet space, rethinking how we give instructions, or simply showing patience—these everyday choices help create a school where every student, including those who are neurodivergent, can thrive. 💙💛 Let’s keep celebrating the unique ways our students learn, grow, and succeed—because inclusion isn’t one big gesture, it’s a series of small, intentional ones. #NeurodiversityAwareness

LHS students had the amazing opportunity to spend the day at the Golisano Institute of Business and Entrepreneurship in Rochester last week. Students learned about the unique model of higher education that the Institute can provide post-graduation. - "Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship delivers a higher-quality, no-debt, accelerated business education that sets you up for economic success." Lockport students got to hear from a panel of current Institute students and we also got a lesson by one of their faculty members, a Masterclass on Current State of Economy & Applied Economics. It was a great day and a promising partnership for LHS business students!

Take a Look at Teaching (TALAT) students attended the 2nd annual "Be a Bengal, Be a Teacher" event at SUNY Buffalo State University on Wednesday. Students were provided with a fantastic opportunity to engage with various education departments and clubs, participate in a panel discussion with current education students and student teachers, take a tour of campus, and enjoy lunch in the dining hall. We are especially proud to share that three of our TALAT members from this trip have been accepted to attend SUNY Buffalo State University in the fall to further their careers in education! We are proud of everything our seniors have accomplished and look forward to seeing them return to LCSD as educators!

LHS U.S. History classes took a powerful trip to the Kenan House Gallery to explore Secret Weapons of WWII: Women, Books, & Music, an exhibit showcasing important artifacts, local connections, and the often-overlooked impact of women during the war. Students and staff shared enthusiastic feedback about the experience! Adding to this moment of remembrance, the Lockport Public Arts Council presented LCSD with a special plaque to be displayed in the halls of LHS, honoring the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of our brave Lions who served in WWII.
