Students from Anna Merritt Elementary, Aaron Mossell Junior High, and Lockport High School West experienced the power of rhythm at the African American Cultural Center of Buffalo's Drum Workshop! Through traditional West African drumming, students learned fundamental techniques, explored the connection between African rhythms and modern music, and sharpened their listening skills by echoing beats back to the instructor. It was a hands-on, high-energy workshop that brought culture, music, and learning to life!

Mrs. Nemi, LHSW Mathematics Teacher, created this bulletin board outside of her classroom. The bulletin board shows some favorite heroes from Black History, paired with a verb that describes the inspiration each of them brings to life!

LCSD students showcased their incredible talent at the Black History Month Art School, where art became a powerful voice for history, identity, and inspiration. Students honored the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black leaders, artists, and change makers. Here's a sample of the work that is on display!

In celebratory of Black History Month, students had an unforgettable experience painting with Princessa Williams, who shared her journey as an artist and entrepreneur. Princessa showcased her incredible murals from Buffalo & Niagara Falls, explaining how art uplifts communities and the effort behind large-scale pieces. She also encouraged students to explore ways to market and sell their own artwork. Thank you Princessa for hosting a great experience for our students!

FEC Workshop: Creating Family Safety Plan Tuesday, February 11, 2025 Time: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Location: Family Empowerment Center, 57 Canal Street, Lockport, Suite 2 (enter through the parking lot door) Creating your family communication plan starts with one simple question: What if? Learn what to do if you are not with your family or cannot reach them during an emergency situation. Experts from Niagara University Border Community Service will also discuss what to have on hand in your home and vehicle and what to have in preparation for an emergency situation or extreme conditions. January 29: Lunar New Year No School District-wide there will be no school on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 for Lunar New Year.

Due to winter weather conditions, all schools in the Lockport City School District will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 for staff and students. This includes the cancellation of all after-school activities, sports, and events. Bullying and Promoting Wellness for Students with Disabilities Date: Wednesday December 04, 2024 Time: 6:00-7:30pm Location: Family Empowerment Center, 1st floor of the Cornerstone Ice Arena (offered Virtually on Zoom). In this VIRTUAL workshop, parents, caregivers, or educators of children with disabilities learn to recognize the signs of a bullying situation and how to talk to a child. Learn about the supports and services that can be built into the Individualized Education Program (IEP) to promote social growth and well-being. LCSD invites parents and guardians to share your thoughts in a brief, anonymous survey open from November 18 - November 22 to help improve your child’s school experience. As a parent/guardian you should have received an email on November 18th with the survey link. If you did not receive this email, please call your school secretary to obtain the link to the survey.
