Students in grades 3–6 had an exciting opportunity to attend the Willie "Hutch" Jones S.T.E.A.M. Fair! They explored innovative science projects created by students from across Western New York and were truly inspired by what they saw. Several of our students left feeling motivated and even expressed interest in creating their own projects to enter the competition next year. We love seeing our young learners excited about science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math!

Anna Merritt Elementary's STEM Club built peep houses out of wafers, jelly beans, glue, and fake grass to celebrate spring!

Take a Look at Teaching (TALAT) students attended the 2nd annual "Be a Bengal, Be a Teacher" event at SUNY Buffalo State University on Wednesday. Students were provided with a fantastic opportunity to engage with various education departments and clubs, participate in a panel discussion with current education students and student teachers, take a tour of campus, and enjoy lunch in the dining hall. We are especially proud to share that three of our TALAT members from this trip have been accepted to attend SUNY Buffalo State University in the fall to further their careers in education! We are proud of everything our seniors have accomplished and look forward to seeing them return to LCSD as educators!

LHS U.S. History classes took a powerful trip to the Kenan House Gallery to explore Secret Weapons of WWII: Women, Books, & Music, an exhibit showcasing important artifacts, local connections, and the often-overlooked impact of women during the war. Students and staff shared enthusiastic feedback about the experience! Adding to this moment of remembrance, the Lockport Public Arts Council presented LCSD with a special plaque to be displayed in the halls of LHS, honoring the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of our brave Lions who served in WWII.

LHS’s Ms. Martin and Mrs. Walker took their Great Gatsby reading experience to the next level by hosting a classy tea party! Students were invited to dress up for extra credit, fully immersing themselves in the Roaring Twenties vibe. Those needing a little extra flair were encouraged to visit Mrs. McClain and the Clothing Closet for stylish options.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from LCSD! 🍀

LCSD students had some fun around the district today celebrating St. Patrick's Day!

Fourth graders at Anna Merritt Elementary in Mrs. Chase's class investigate Erosion by "Making it Rain." During the investigation, students were able to visualize the effects of rain and erosion of different earth materials.

This week students from Buffalo Public Schools, Kenmore Central School District, and Lockport City Schools came together to brainstorm solutions for cell phone usage in schools. Lockport students shined by guiding forums, engaging in debates, and even being interviewed by local news.

Roy B. Kelley's Student Council held a walk up bouquet sale to benefit an important part of our community, Niagara Hospice. In four mornings, they sold 84 bouquets and raised over $800.00! Miss Regan and all Student Council members would like to give a HUGE heartfelt thank you to all parents, students, teachers, and community members who stopped for a bouquet. We witnessed the most heart-warming acts of kindness throughout this sale all week, and are so appreciative of all the support and generosity.

Last week, our amazing Sources of Strength students at LHS put kindness into action by creating heartfelt Valentines for the community! ❤️✂️✉️ From handwritten notes to thoughtful designs, these small gestures remind us all that a little kindness goes a long way. 💕

Mrs. Torres' ENL students took on a delicious journey around the world! Each student created a poster and a Google Slides presentation about traditional foods from their home country, then shared their research with the class. The students also learned about popular foods in the U.S.—including the classic s’more! Students got to make and taste their own s’mores, bringing their learning full circle in the sweetest way. 😋

In celebration of Black History Month, Emmet Belknap students welcomed doll collector and curator Lisa Jacobs-Watson. She shared the history and impact of dolls on children. Mrs. Jacobs-Watson also introduced students to unique doll collections, including her favorite—the HBCU collection, which honors Historically Black Colleges and Universities and encourages big dreams. She closed with an inspiring message: "Be yourself, love yourself, and love others based on who they are, not what they look like."
